Melissa Saunders

Melissa Saunders has practiced yoga for over 20 years and was certified as an instructor by Yoga Alliance in 2021. She focuses on Yin Yoga as a meditative practice to help improve flexibility and mobility and relieve tension. She also teaches a Yin-Yang fusion class as a way to practice balance in daily life, and has taught Laughter Yoga in a nursing home, sharing the concept that laughter really is “the best medicine!” Melissa was an aerobics instructor before discovering yoga and has always enjoyed working with students to help meet their body/mind/spirit goals. Off the mat, she enjoys hiking, horseback riding, and exploring the beauty of hunt country.

My fitness journey began as a teenager in my home country, where I carried a backpack of weights for more than a mile to a public gym. After moving to the US I joined a gym and then achieved my 200 RYT certification. I enjoy practicing Bikram, Hatha, Ashtanga, Gentle Yoga, Yin, and my favorite – Vinyasa. I like the challenge of Vinyasa, which involves a faster pace that is designed to build heat and strengthen muscles. While my career involves traditional medicine at a regional medical facility, I love having the opportunity to help people in our community to pursue a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally.
